The scholarships were awarded to 11 students who have shown extraordinary dedication and commitment to their studies. All the students have successfully gained entry into local universities. Launched in 2021, the FWD Takaful Scholarship Programme is open to deserving students in Malaysia, especially those from B40 families (household income below RM5,000) who need financial aid to pursue their education at institutions of higher learning. The scholarship programme aims to develop skills and sustainable talent for the takaful industry by promoting and encouraging young talent to take up studies in the fields of Takaful, Shariah, Actuarial Science, Islamic Finance and Information/Digital Technology. Salim Majid Zain, FWD Takaful’s Chief Executive Officer said, “At FWD Takaful, the emphasis we place on education and human capital development reflects our dedication to changing the way people feel about takaful. We aspire to develop and enhance the capacity and skills of the country’s youth in the pursuit of shaping the industry’s professionals. With the FWD Takaful Scholarship Programme, underprivileged students will be able to embark on their tertiary education journey, which will act as a significant springboard to becoming future leaders in their respective areas of study.” The FWD Takaful Scholarship Programme received an overwhelming number of applications. The scholarship has fully funded a 4-year study programme (including pre-university) and the entire course fees that include the tuition fee, examination fees, hostel fees, living allowances, a one-time purchase of a laptop and printer, books and course materials. What’s more, FWD Takaful has also provided takaful coverage and assigned a mentor to all successful applicants throughout the entire scholarship programme. Lisa Lew, FWD Takaful’s Chief Human Resources Officer, added, “We want to continue to make a positive and much-needed transformation for underprivileged students by supporting their passion and talent to make a meaningful difference. These fields of study are in line with the growing need for a talent pool for the industry. Nurturing young passionate talents in these areas over time will contribute to the growth of takaful related businesses and other relevant functions in the industry to bring more innovative products, services and technology.”
