Awards Anniversary: Mitsui Chemicals Championing Contributions To Catalysis Science

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- Mitsui Chemicals, a chemical manufacturer, has celebrated the 20-year milestone of the Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Awards since its establishment in 2004.


Recognised researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the progress in catalysis science, the awards consist of the Catalysis Science Award, which is open to individuals aged 47 or younger, and the Catalysis Science Award for Creative Work, intended for younger researchers aged 37 or below.


These prestigious awards have garnered great respect within the scientific community, with the winner of the 2011 Catalysis Science Award later receiving the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2021.


Currently in its 10th iteration, the 2024 awards were presented to the winners with a commemorative plaque and certificate at the award ceremony held in Tokyo on Oct 24, 2024, according to Mitsui Chemicals in a statement.


The winner of the 2024 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award was Guangbin Dong, Weldon G. Brown Professor of Chemistry at The University of Chicago.


Meanwhile, the winners of the 2024 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award for Creative Work were National University of Singapore Associate Professor Ming Joo Koh and The Scripps Research Institute Professor Keary M. Engle.


Applications for the 2026 Catalysis Science Awards will be opened this September, with expectations for strong participation from catalysis researchers.


Mitsui Chemicals, a chemical manufacturer that relies on catalysts, remains committed to continuously supporting these awards as a tribute to researchers in catalysis science and contributing to the sustainable development of chemistry and the chemical industry.
