ILLUMINATION, NINTENDO TO RELEASE THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE IN APRIL 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Illumination and Nintendo Co Ltd have announced that the upcoming animated film based on the Super Mario Bros universe will be titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.


The film will be released globally by Universal Pictures starting April 3, 2026, with its Japan premiere scheduled for April 24, 2026. Select territories will follow throughout the month.


The returning cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.


According to a statement, additional characters and voice actors will be revealed at a later date.


The new release follows The Super Mario Bros Movie, launched in 2023, which earned more than US$1.3 billion worldwide. (US$1=RM4.18)


Both titles are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.


The movie will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures.


The project brings back directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with Matthew Fogel writing the screenplay and Brian Tyler composing the score.


Illumination is headquartered in Santa Monica, California, while Nintendo is based in Kyoto, Japan.
