KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (BIPA) has announced the completion of ASEAN-ROK XR Training Programme with 19 representatives from organisations related to cultural tourism and local government officials at the ASEAN-ROK ICT Convergence Village in Busan, South Korea.

The programme was organised to improve cooperation in the field of extended reality (XR) tourism and cultural heritage between South Korea and ASEAN countries, in which the team developed specific cooperation measures during the training from Nov 28 to Dec 2, 2022.

It consisted of XR/Metaverse theory training, introduction of case studies of South Korea XR/Metaverse tourism and cultural heritage and technology industry convergence, tour of major facilities and companies in South Korea and writing joint project proposals by team and expert mentoring.

“Through an extended network, Korea-ASEAN XR cooperation is expected to increase opportunities for Korean companies to enter the market as well as promote cooperative exchanges between Korea and ASEAN countries," said BIPA President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeong Mun-Seob in a statement.

The trainees included 19 members from four ASEAN countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam) and Nepal were from information and communication technology (ICT), culture and tourism-related organisations, as well as local governments.

“Based on the knowledge acquired through the training programme, they made proposals for a joint project in the field of tourism and cultural heritage,” it said.

A total of nine joint project proposals came out from the training programme which include Metatourism in Batu City (Indonesia); Sarawak living museum in Fully Immersive Extended Reality (Malaysia); and digitising historical and cultural relics in Long An (Vietnam).

The experts will discuss the most promising project which will be promoted as the 'Korea-ASEAN XR Joint Project' next year.

The training programme was co-hosted by BIPA, the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO and the Tourism Promotion Organisation for Asia Pacific Cities.
