KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- A team of 15 employees and family members from Mitsui Chemicals Asia Pacific (MCAP) and its Singapore affiliates recently took to the coastlines in a hands-on effort to combat marine pollution.
Partnering with sustainability-focused organisation PLASTIFY, the volunteers collected over 145 kilogrammes (kg) of trash as part of the company’s global Clean-up Caravan initiative for World Cleanup Day, according to a statement.
The cleanup uncovered a wide range of marine debris, including washed-up jerry cans, polystyrene foam bits, cigarette butts, and single-use plastic bags—highlighting the persistent threat plastic waste poses to marine ecosystems.
Launched in 2019, Clean-up Caravan is Mitsui Chemicals Group’s global effort to prevent litter from entering waterways and oceans. Employees in Singapore are regularly encouraged to participate, deepening their understanding of local waste issues and the importance of recycling.
MCAP, the Asia Pacific Regional Headquarters of Mitsui Chemicals Inc, leads the initiative in Singapore. It is joined by four other affiliates—Mitsui Elastomers Singapore, Prime Evolue Singapore, SDC Technologies Asia Pacific, and the Mitsui Chemicals Singapore R&D Centre.
The event is part of a broader global movement that mobilises millions of volunteers to tackle mismanaged waste, reinforcing MCAP’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community-driven sustainability.
Beyond just collecting trash, the activity served as a reminder of the pressing need for long-term waste reduction strategies and responsible consumption.
