KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- From MCKL to the world, our high achievers continue to thrive at top universities worldwide. Outstanding alumni Damien Chim and Sia Rei Zen showcase how determination, strategic planning, and a solid academic foundation can open doors to remarkable opportunities.
Damien Chim: A Leap of Faith to A Level and Beyond
Now pursuing a Computer Science degree at the University of Sydney on a full scholarship, Damien Chim’s achievements are extraordinary.
Driven by ambition and opportunity, he chose to pursue Cambridge A Level at MCKL. His dedication paid off when he achieved a Top in the World score for AS Level Physics in the Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award, November 2023 Exam Series. For Damien, this remarkable achievement was a defining moment.
“This award validates my passion for Physics. I dedicated immense effort to mastering it, and this recognition is incredibly rewarding—not just for me, but also for my parents and my lecturers, who supported me every step of the way.”
Damien emphasises the importance of a deep understanding and consistent practice. “To excel in A Level, grasp concepts thoroughly before applying them. The questions can be tricky, and surface-level knowledge will not suffice. Keep testing yourself, and do not hesitate to seek help when needed.”
Sia Rei Zen: A Journey to Kyoto University with Western Australian Certificate of Education (AUSMAT)
From MCKL to Kyoto University, AUSMAT graduate Sia Rei Zen’s journey reflects determination, strategy, and excellence. Now pursuing Economics, he calls it a surreal achievement. “MCKL offered the right structure and support, creating the ideal environment to excel in AUSMAT.”
His hard work paid off with admission to one of Japan’s most prestigious universities, completely funded. “It felt surreal. Everything I worked for finally paid off. Getting into Kyoto University without financial worries was an incredible blessing, proving that all those late nights and sacrifices were worth it.”
Sia credits much of his success to MCKL’s supportive learning environment, dedicated lecturers, and driven peers. He fondly remembers late-night study sessions and group revisions that strengthened his preparation for future academic challenges.
“AUSMAT is demanding but rewarding. Time management is crucial—develop strong study habits early and lean on your teachers and friends for support. AUSMAT opens many doors, so stay focused and take it one step at a time.”
