KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- The International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum (ISTIF) of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) will hold its inaugural session in Hong Kong from June 6 to 7, under the theme “Transitioning Towards the Future: Powered by Science and Technology Innovation”.

Jointly organised by the BFA and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, the forum will gather leading voices from government, industry and academia to discuss global trends and challenges in science and technology innovation.

The two-day forum will cover a broad range of forward-looking topics, including the global innovation ecosystem, international science and technology (sci-tech) governance, the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, innovation-industry integration, life sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), future mobility, and quantum technologies, according to a statement.

Established in 2019, the ISTIF of BFA serves as a key international platform for dialogue on scientific innovation and cooperation.

Previous editions held in Macao (2020), Guangzhou (2022), and Zhuhai (2023) have strengthened sci-tech collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promoted technology transfer under the Belt and Road Initiative, and advanced AI governance on a global scale.

ISTIF of BFA in Hong Kong would reinforce the city’s position as a strategic connector between Mainland China and the world. Hong Kong’s growing capabilities in research and development, strong industrial base, and status as a global financial centre support its role in fostering technological innovation in the Greater Bay Area.

The 2025 forum also comes amid rapid global scientific and industrial transformation, raising concerns over data security, technological ethics, and privacy protection.

The event is expected to provide valuable perspectives on strengthening international sci-tech cooperation and building a more inclusive and robust global governance framework for innovation.
