KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Students from Playpen School in Bangladesh were named national winners in the British Council’s global "Your World" video-making competition, now in its 10th edition.
As part of their project, the team raised funds to donate books and notebooks to children in deprived communities across Bangladesh.
This year’s competition saw impressive participation from Bangladesh, with 60 video entries out of a total of 642 submissions by 3,210 students representing 34 countries. The initiative, which helps develop essential skills like critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, encourages students to create projects that address real-world challenges.
British Council Country Director in Bangladesh, Stephen Forbes, in a statement, said a great advantage of being a British Council Partner School is the ability for students to participate in impactful global competitions such as Your World.
Meanwhile, the winning team described the experience as both educational and rewarding.
This year’s theme, “Skills for Sustainability – Equipping All Youth for the Future”, aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education and underscores the importance of equipping students with the tools to address global sustainability challenges.
This year’s global winners from Uganda’s Scoris International School addressed female unemployment, training women in entrepreneurship through soap-making and baking. Their work exemplifies how young people can lead meaningful change through education and innovation.
Over the past decade, the competition has engaged 30,000 students, driving impactful social action projects that have reached millions across local communities. The 11th edition is set to open in September this year.
