HEATHROW NAMED WORLD'S MOST CONNECTED AIRPORT FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR – OAG

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- London Heathrow (LHR) has been named the world’s most connected airport for the third year in a row, according to OAG’s Megahubs 2025 report.

Over the past decade, the number of international destinations served at LHR has grown by 24 per cent, underscoring its position as a leading hub for global travellers.

Istanbul Airport (IST) made the biggest leap, climbing from eighth to second place, fuelled by a 25 per cent increase in potential connections—with Turkish Airlines operating 79 per cent of all flights. Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) rounds out an all-European top three, moving up one place.

OAG Chief Analyst, John Grant said Heathrow’s dominance and Istanbul’s rise show the dynamic evolution of air connectivity over the past decade.

The ranking, now in its 10th year, analyses global airport connectivity based on destinations served and flight connections.

Kuala Lumpur (KUL) emerged as the top-ranked low-cost hub globally, tied for fourth place overall and leading in Asia, thanks in part to AirAsia’s dominant 36 per cent share of flights.

In the United States, Chicago O’Hare (ORD) leads in international connectivity, while New York JFK dropped from sixth to 14th. Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) remains strong at eighth place.

The Middle East placed three airports in the top 50, with Dubai International (DXB) highest at 15th, while Riyadh (RUH) overtook Doha (DOH) after rising 11 spots.

OAG Megahubs is based on flight data from the 100 largest and 100 largest international airports, measured by total scheduled seats for the year. The rankings are based on flight data from the busiest travel day globally between September 2024 until Aug 1, 2025.
