KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- The Third Meishan Satellite Application Industry Development Conference officially opened in Meishan City, Sichuan Province, bringing together experts in aerospace, remote sensing, and international cooperation.

The event, aimed at advancing Meishan’s growing role in the satellite sector, focused on innovation, industrial coordination, and global collaboration, according to a statement.

The conference is jointly sponsored by the China Association of Remote Sensing Application and the People’s Government of Meishan City, with support from regional industrial and investment groups.

At the opening ceremony, the China Association of Remote Sensing Application released the 2025 Blue Book on the Development of China's Remote Sensing Application Sector.

Prominent scientists including Li Deren of Wuhan University, Zhu Ninghua from Nankai University, and Xu Ying of the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered keynote speeches.

Meishan-based Huantian Wisdom Technology unveiled its platform “StarView Horizon”, which integrates over 40 core spatiotemporal algorithms. The company also signed cooperation agreements with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Kazaerospace, as well as Malaysia’s Karuna Group, to jointly promote satellite application projects.

Meishan, which now hosts the largest cluster of commercial remote sensing satellites in Southwest China, has emerged as a rising satellite industry hub. The city ranks fourth nationally in satellite deployment and has been leveraging remote sensing technology in agriculture, environmental protection, disaster management, and smart city planning.

The city’s long-term vision was outlined in its 2024–2030 satellite industry development plan, aiming to establish a globally competitive industry cluster worth over 10 billion Chinese yuan (about US$1.39 billion) by 2030. (US$1=RM4.23)

A major milestone was the full launch of the Western China Satellite Industrial Park on Dec 30, 2024. During this conference, nine new enterprises joined the park, bringing the total to 26 satellite-focused enterprises and five scientific research platforms, in which the park is projected to surpass five billion Chinese yuan in industry output by 2028.

Further bolstering its infrastructure, Meishan is preparing to open the Huantian Cloud Smart Computing Center—the largest commercial satellite data centre in Southwest China. The facility aims to overcome sector-wide challenges in computing, storage, and data efficiency.
